Do you remember.................

This is a question we get asked alot in Bah Humbugs Sweet Shop so i thought it would be a good idea to list some of the most popular requests we get, and let you know what's happened to them.

Spangles - a popular square fruit boiled sweet from the 1960's made by Mars. They did begin to re-make them in the early 1990's but demand was not strong enough to ensure their survival. There is a Facebook page devoted to these sweets!

Jap Deserts - a candy covered coconut cube-sized sweet. Similar to those ones found in Dolly Mixture, but these used to be available to buy on their own. No longer being made today. Apparently coconut used to be known as Jap?

Pacers - a particlar favourite of ours. A chewy spearmint flavoured mint with three green stripes running through each sweet. They used to come in square green packets particularly popular in the eighties, but died a death at the start of the ninetys so we believe. Spearmint flavoured Mojo's are a good substitute though!

Texan Bars - a chewy nougat bar covered in milk chocolate. This bar made by Nestle came back into circulation at the beginning of 2006 as a limited edition bar, but unfortunately it remained just a limited edition, and we can't get any more! This is a real shame as we sold out of our supply really quickly.

Cremola Foam - this was a fizzy powder that you added to water to make a fizzy drink. Originally made by Nestle, it died out sometime in the 80's we believe. Apparently there is a similar product in Germany, but we are as yet to try it.

Start of the Summer Holidays!

Well the so-called Summer Holidays are here, even though there seems to be a shortage of Summer weather again this year! Nevermind, despite the rain there is still lots of things that you can do to while away the holidays in North Yorkshire. Recently we went to The Forbidden Corner, at Coverham near Middleham. I hadn't been for years, but it was absolutely great fun! We took our two year old neice who was a little scared at numerous occassions but all the adults thought it was a fab day out. So check out their website if you're in the area for a thoroughly recommended day out.

For those of you who haven't sorted out a holiday yet and are looking for a break in the Yorkshire Dales, then may i suggest Country Hideaways which has a lovely selection of country cottages to choose from in the Dales. Our local area has loads to offer and i'm sure that you will have a great visit - no matter what the weather is like!

And then to Bah Humbugs! We've been having a busy Summer with so many people choosing to holiday in the UK this year. Our Ice Cream from Brymor is selling as well as ever, and we've noticed a big surge in the sale of our Fudges recently. We figure this is because people are buying the fudges to take home to friends and family.

Bah Humbugs July News!

A good number of our products have been rebranded recently under a new name - Taveners Proper Sweets. They are all manufactured by Tangerine Confectionery Ltd, and the great news is that the majority of the sweets contain natural colours and flavourings now. Whilst we can't guarantee that they will stop the kids going hyper, they are definitely better for them!! They may look a little different, but they still have a great taste and we're confident that you might not even notice the changes!

I know that a lot of people were unhappy about the new packging for the classic Sherbet Fountain (as above), but we do still have supplies of the old sherbet fountain, so if you're a real fan, get your orders in before it's too late! The new packaging looks a lot tidier, and i know the shelves won't be covered in sherbet all the time now!

Bah Humbugs Starts to Blog!!

Okay, i'm going to attempt to start and keep up with a blog for Bah Humbugs! Let me know what you think, and if you have any questions about old fashioned sweets, then please do let me know!!

It's been a lovely weekend in Masham, plenty of folk around looking for old fashioned sweets and cooling ice cream. The ice cream sales have rocketed and we only have Vanilla, Rum & Raisin, Raspberry, Chocolate and Wild Cherry in stock, much to the annoyance of the loyal Mint Choc Chip fans. And yes, we've run out of Vanilla & Almond Toffee too which really ruined one lady's day. I thought she was going to collapse when i told her we'd run out!

So we've got Father's Day next weekend (21st June), so get your orders in early this week to ensure we can pack it up and ship it out on time. The boxes of Midget Gems, Sports Mixture and Wine Gums are proving to be popular choices, as well as the ever faithful Retro Hamper and Liquorice Lovers Hamper!
